Sunday's powerful winds claimed a nest from a high tree in our yard. It looked sad and forlorn lying in the grass.
Given the time of year, we can be rest assured that the nest was long empty and abandoned after the spring hatching.

Hidden treasures!

Today we were burning brush that we had accumulated in a pile at the back of the property and stumbled upon this treasure!
Could be a kildeer (although I've never seen them nest in such long grass)? What do you think?
Hope we didn't scare the parents away!

Like a present each day....

I never get tired of collecting eggs on the farm.
There is something both soothing and exciting about peeking into the nesting box to see what's there.
Its like getting a present every day!
